A WALK THROUGH ILD ARETE

Join us in a walk through ILD Arete,  a residential development designed by WOW in Gurgaon, India. In a city cramped for space, Arete is a rare private developments that offers generous open green spaces with gardens and amenities for residents to thrive. The key concept for this project is the strong connection between the landscape and the architecture. WOW believes this connection is necessary for promoting wellness.  The design maximises the open space by locating the towers along the setback line and reserving the central area as open space. The central park extends up to the towers to continue the green space up over the interior facades of the towers.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites | Ajanta and Ellora Caves

WOW’s Design Director, Maria Warner Wong just returned from a trip to India where she gave two keynote lectures at events organised by the Indian Institute of Architects and E-seeed Alumni group. During her visit the organisers were kind enough to take Maria on a incredible tour of the Ajanta and Ellora Caves.   Here’s what Maria had to say about the sites along with the photos she took. My hosts from the Indian Institute of Architects and the E-Seeed Alumni group shared their warm hospitality, open mindedness and curiosity and the marvels of Maharashtra, Ajanta and Ellora. The universal  lessons of kindness, compassion and humility were expressed through stone carvings and paintings. I was deeply moved by a sense of wonder and amazement with the magnificent stone carved ...

Raffles Park

Raffles Park in Bangalore is designed to be a showcase, built by a Singaporean developer to highlight how green and high-quality developments can be achieved in India. The emphasis is on creating a lush central park around which are clustered villas designed as modern tropical homes. Each villa is designed with traditional Vastu principles around a central courtyard, and integrates gardens and vistas at every level of the near and far green. In a deviation from traditional Vastu-dictated home space planning in India, expansive long-span spaces occur at every level and interconnect levels to expand the spatial experience within a small footprint for a truly open and well-ventilated home. The interiors of the villas are design to reflect a balanced lifestyle that is both luxurious and homely at the same time. The space planning was tempered by Vashtu and contemporary lifestyle considerations.  Each space in the house is designed to tease out the ...

Vivanta by Taj, Gurgaon

Vivanta by Taj, Gurgaon was completed in 2013 by WOW Architects and it has since been nominated for the World Architecture Festival Awards 2013 as well as published in magazine and websites worldwide. It was recently featured on Travel + Leisure magazine’s  “It List: The Best New Hotels.” REDEFINING THE NATIVE The hotel resides in the city of Gurgaon, often dubbed the ‘Face of New India’. Overlooked as a backward, rural community just a decade ago, Gurgaon has rapidly developed into an IT hub and home to many multinational companies, partly due to its proximity and connectivity to the national capital of New Delhi. However, this rapid development has not been consistent nor coordinated throughout the urban environment. Indeed, this narrative is a familiar one for architects working in the developed world: the rapid economic growth and the accompanying urbanization has created a world of radical juxtapositions, where glistening contemporary ...
