WOWHAUS AT THE NIVEN ROAD STUDIO

WOW is pleased to announce the completion of the Niven Road Studio in Singapore and the launch of WOWHAUS! The Niven Road Studio is a historic secondary settlement conservation site where the existing 2 storey building is conserved with a tall rear extension comprising a Basement, Three Stories and an Attic. The tall rear extension provides a new
back entrance at the hilltop while the main entrance remains on the fully preserved front façade facing the heritage street at ground level. The conservation strategy of juxtaposing old and new develops the project in to a 21st century heritage building. Designed for minimum visual impact from the heritage street, the
rear extension comprises three levels of double height space screened from the East and West sun by deep vertical fins. Today, Niven Road’s memorable days are a nearly forgotten reality as its public institutions have moved away, been demolished or closed down over the past ...

M HOTEL CHENGDU

We have completed the Interior Design of M Hotel Chengdu, an urban business hotel with 655 rooms. This is the first M Hotel outside of Singapore since Millennium & Copthorne Hotel Launched The M brand in 2000. The hotel interiors is inspired by the rich context of Chengdu where Chengdu is a city known for its care-free lifestyle, and is also referred to China’s “Party city”. With this in mind, the interiors of M Hotel are designed with a contemporary and modern translation of this historical rich and care-free Chengdu lifestyle as M Hotel marks its entry into China. The M Hotel, like a modern Chinese chest-box, unfolds and is choreographed into a series of nested spatial experiences to narrate the modern interpretation of Chengdu city from the reception to the clubhouse in the hotel. Behind the scenes | WOW Monograph

We are proud to announce the launch of our first ever monograph, Experiential Design for a Changing World. The book features 13 of our completed projects including 6 hospitality projects, 6 residential projects and the Archifest Zero Waste Pavilion. The process of creating our book which began with a team meeting in November 2013 turned into something none of us expected or was exactly prepared for. We expected a straight forward process of selecting images and colours and submitting it to the publisher, like when we requested a black background with white text and drawings.  But reality was that we needed to select which paper to print the black on and in what shade and with what type of lamination.  We went through ...

Vivanta by Taj, Gurgaon

Vivanta by Taj, Gurgaon was completed in 2013 by WOW Architects and it has since been nominated for the World Architecture Festival Awards 2013 as well as published in magazine and websites worldwide. It was recently featured on Travel + Leisure magazine’s  “It List: The Best New Hotels.” REDEFINING THE NATIVE The hotel resides in the city of Gurgaon, often dubbed the ‘Face of New India’. Overlooked as a backward, rural community just a decade ago, Gurgaon has rapidly developed into an IT hub and home to many multinational companies, partly due to its proximity and connectivity to the national capital of New Delhi. However, this rapid development has not been consistent nor coordinated throughout the urban environment. Indeed, this narrative is a familiar one for architects working in the developed world: the rapid economic growth and the accompanying urbanization has created a world of radical juxtapositions, where glistening contemporary ...

SHERATON HANGZHOU XIXI RESORT

Take a look in to the three restaurants designed by WOW as a part of Sheraton Hangzhou Wetland Park Resort. All three restaurants are uniquely themed and offer very different experiences. FEAST The all-day dining restaurant Feast was inspired by wu-hsing (‘five movers’), also known as the Five Elements of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water which underlie the Chinese and Taoist understanding of the cosmos and history. They are the metaphysical forces associated with the nature of the substances, connected with the four seasons and the cycle of life, where Earth mediates between the four, sustaining and being sustained by them. Organised as a culinary journey made up of different zones, each zone is characterised by a specific food preparation method embodying one of the Five Elements. A zone offering cold fruit and dessert represents the Metal element. Fire is identified by a wall of metal sequins designed in the pattern of ...
