WOWHAUS AT THE NIVEN ROAD STUDIO

WOW is pleased to announce the completion of the Niven Road Studio in Singapore and the launch of WOWHAUS! The Niven Road Studio is a historic secondary settlement conservation site where the existing 2 storey building is conserved with a tall rear extension comprising a Basement, Three Stories and an Attic. The installation uses 443 acrylic rods on a 12.5 x 12.5 cm grid representing a forest of trees. Placed over these trees are Balancing Birds modeled after a bird-shaped toy commonly used in physics class to teach the principles of gravity and center mass. Creating the perfect balance and angle out of the laminate birds proved to be the biggest challenge and achieved by many rounds of trials and errors. The original inspiration to feature birds came from their vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of nature. Birds are agents of seeds dispersal, biological control of pests and bio-indicators of pollution. Yet, there are currently over 1,000 species ...
